Obama is lambasted for something he didn’t do, McCain is pretending outrage over something that wasn’t said, the media is in a frenzy about what wasn’t done and what wasn’t said.
Lipstick on a pig is what is at issue. And we need to pay attention because this must be really important. It is taking precedence over two wars, a failing economy, rapidly increasing unemployment, and millions of uninsured Americans.
Obama, talking about McCain and Palin calling the same thing something different when they refer to their policies as “change” used an analogy – you can put lipstick on a pig, but it is still a pig.
McCain and company, feigning outrage, demand that Obama apologize to Palin because they say he was calling her a pig. Well, perhaps ole John is just having a senior moment - that happens at his age (and mine).
Why? Because McCain used the same analogy in 2007 in reference to Hillary Clinton’s healthcare plan when he said “I think they put some lipstick on a pig, but it is still a pig.” I looked and looked but couldn’t find any reference to an apology to Hilary – neither demanded nor offered. Oops!
Now that we know the context of Obama’s statement don’t you think it's really hysterical that the Republicans all thought of Sarah Palin when Barack Obama mentioned a lipstick-wearing pig. Sort of hoisted by their own petard don’t you think?
A Closer Look Here, There and Everywhere

Obama himself said it best today, when he referred to this feigned Republican outrage by saying "Enough! “I don’t care what they say about me, but I love this country too much to let them take over another election with lies and phony outrage and swift boat politics. Enough is enough.”
He also mentioned what has been going through my own mind as I witness more and more of the Republican lies and attempts at misdirection, diversion and distraction from any sort of real issues-- that the real loser in all this political crapola coming from the right wing is the American People.
McCain is losing whatever credibility he thought he once had as the "straight talk express." His campaign has become instead, the McCain crock and bull express. I honestly believe this will eventually backfire on him and his campaign. People are going to start asking not whether what his campaign says is the truth or not, but why they choose to lie so often?
I just hope it doesn’t take too long to backfire. We are less than two months from the election. I wish the media would not assist in spreading the lies. At least this time they showed the context of Obama’s statement and called McCain on it pretty quickly.
I really liked the way Obama handled it – because he responded to it without allowing it to put him off message. That is the only way to deal with these distractions.
Perhaps people will begin to see how foolish the McCain campaign is when they spend a lot of time talking about all these petty things and very little time talking about the things the people care about.
One can hope.
