"I'm Mad As Hell And I'm Not Going To Take This Anymore"

The latest outrage from the President regarding just how his White House staff will or will not testify before Congress made me angry. It's just one in a long list of things he has done to make me angry. I don't know about you, but I'm tired of being angry.

My first response was to send an email to Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer and Diane Feinstein. The feeling motivating this action was akin to how I felt when I first heard that famous line delivered so eloquently by Peter Finch in Network so long ago: "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore." I believe it's time for "we the people" to take our country back from those who appear to represent themselves more than they do us. The Executive seems a good place to start. The text of the email follows.

"This current tirade from the President to force the Congress to accept testimony from some of his top White House aides without being under oath, and in private, and with no form of transcription or recording is patently absurd, and a last straw. It's as good as an admission that what these people might have to share with the American public is something he wants to hide, and that he believes he can do whatever he likes.

It's time to put a stop to the nonsense, lies, ineptitude and corruption of this administration. That is why the people voted the way they did last November, to institute a "CHANGE."

"I sincerely hope that you and the other members of Congress, on either side of the aisle are ready to do something more effective than rhetoric and promises. It's time to act. This administration has bullied the Congress of the United States and the American people for long enough. Don't you think so?

If this Congress does not act to make a significant change in how the government does business, and represents the voters, there are going to be some even bigger changes come 2008.

I've always respected you and what you stand for. Please don't let us down now. This may sound melodramatic, but I believe America is facing one of it's darkest hours. We presently have an executive branch that has been allowed to usurp way too much power, nullify the Congress, and attack the Constitution it's sworn to protect. Please make a difference. Persuade as many others in Congress that the American people for the most part are well aware of what is going on, and are watching with great interest and concern, how the democrats and the republicans in Congress act, or do not act."

While writing the email I was also reminded of some Bob Dylan lyrics from The Times They are A-changin:

"Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside
And it is ragin'.
It'll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'."

Great letter! We all need to write and demand accountability from this White House. It is long overdue. And I AM MAD AS HELL AND WON'T TAKE IT ANYMORE, TOO! hehehehe

What continues to be troubling to me is the continuing lack of accountability this administration has had. You can lie, you can make monumental mistakes and you can undermine the Constitution, yet there are no consequences. Tenet left office with a medal, to take some heat off Bush and Cheney, and Scooter got a conviction, but what else?

Let's hope Congress doesn't block the hall. Subpoena the whole bunch and fight.

Stephen, you have expressed my own sentiments perfectly. When I saw the little emperor on television spouting off once again from his own little arrogant bubble of denial, my first response was "Bring it on!" How dare he continue, in the face of one scandal after another, lie after lie after lie, to stand there and insist that his little corrupt administration is above the law? I could just picture him stamping his foot like a three-year-old having a tantrum because the world doesn't go his way. Karl Rove has been implicated again and again in scandal after scandal and yet Bush goes on television to insist that there's no evidence of wrongdoing. He must think the American public is as stupid as he is!

Thanks Sparkles, Doug and Renee. We are on the same wavelength. Perhaps it is time for every American that can, to inundate the Congress with emails and snail mail reverberating Howard Biel's immortal words: "I'm Mad As Hell And I'm Not Going To Take This Anymore"

How do we get that message to as many people as possible? Let's think about it!

I'm angry but more than that. I'm very worried that the executive branch of government is using the judicial branch for its own political ends. From what I've seen so far, that seems to be just what's happening. And yes, you are correct when you say that Bush's "offer" is just another case of not bothering to take responsibility to anyone for this administration's chicanery. In the past, they've gotten away with it. So far, so good with the Dems in not being cowed into submission.
You were right, Stephen, to encourage them to continue on the path of holding this gang of thugs and liars to some measure of accountability.

Well said, well put and right on.

My patience ran out along time ago but it seems we may yet need to find even deeper sources of that irritating quality.

It is to be hoped that Republicans will eventually be embarrassed enough to quietly inform their Demcoratic collegues that they would be willing to accede to the successful pursuit of an impeachment of Cheney. Impeaching Bush would be an excercise in futility as long as Cheney is in place to step up to the oval office.

You have no idea how many times i have used that one statement in this lifetime. It says it all. In his case it only allowed to people to vent all at once out their windows.
Today people are afraid to open their windows, with good reason.

This is perhaps the most frustrating, egomaniac couple of men ever in office.

When the constitution gets blown, the world is in chaos.

I have been mad since I first realized who really caused 9/11.....but you keep your mouth shut or you die.

I have written the letters, yet no response. Clinton answered me personally when he was president........bush is a fragmented maniac who controls the world in his mind, and has gotten away with it....now cheney shoots his lawyer(now we know why) he moves haliburton to iraq...during his vp term and no one does or says anything. Clinton did less and was impeached.

i have been fighting since bush has determined to lower the grading of soldiers in kosovo and that would save him money. However, it would cost the soldiers hundreds of dollars, and no insurance medically for their family. If they were taking a trip home it was to be their own money.

I am happy to say, that today it was stricken. He vowed to bring it back. I don't think so.........

If we scream at the real 9/11 cause, you can find yourself in a foreign prison, with no one knowing where you are, and no legal rights.....We both know very well who is guilty.

I will continue to scream that statement, if only to vent it from my soul.

The end has started, too many kept their lemming eyes closed.

Halburton made them a fortune, and now they move it before his term is out??????what else is going on over there? Is cheney and bush planning to be the next terrorist attack again???????????

by the way, I forgot to mention that I am as mad as Hell at the Democrats. they now seem to have lost all their nerve since we voted them into office last year. who can you trust?

Whats wrong with gas prices? the American people. That's whats wrong.
