The big lie about the economy

VP Joe Biden says the economy is swiftly recovering; everything is going to be just peachy. Mr. Credibility said further that we are re-building after the terrible mess that Bush and the Republicans left the Democrats. Some writer compared this obvious fabrication to the Monty Python episode where the pet store owner insisted the stone dead parrot was only resting. When the Democrats took control of Congress in 2007, unemployment was 4.5%, stock market was at 12000, and the deficit was 1.4% of GDP. Today unemployment is 9.5 and will likely climb higher, more than 18 percent of people who want full-time work can only find part-time jobs. Consumer confidence is destroyed, housing sales recently hit a 15-year low, and the stock market is off 11 percent since its April highs for the year. Runaway federal spending isn't likely to be brought under control as long as the major entitlements - Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid - remain completely out of control. The number of entitlement beneficiaries is growing faster than the number of taxpayers, and entitlements account for more than half of federal spending.
When the Democrats took control of Congress in 2007 it was precisely the time that marks the beginning of the recession. The actual facts put the big lie to one of the many lies of the current Democrat regime.

Harvard study discovers the obvious

Expectedly, our left-wing media has virtually ignored the results of a long-term Harvard University on diversity in America.
One always hears the clichéd argument proclaiming the benefit of diversity with the claim that "Our country was built on diversity." A truly meaningless and probably even an inaccurate statement. I have never heard a truly persuasive defense of the politically correct idea that diversity is a benefit to the country - only generalities about a broad variety of ethic groups somehow adding to our culture. In fact, I have always suspected that multiculturalism and diversity are, in fact, a drag on the culture for reasons so obvious one could anticipate the results of the above mentioned study. The study, for which the government no doubt granted a few million dollars to the Harvard group to perform, came up with the following: The more diverse a culture, the less the members participate in group community functions, the less the volunteering, and the least amount of full-community activity. People become balkanized, remaining within their own ethnic society, more aloof, and never becoming part of the fabric of traditional American social culture. My response to these results is: duh.

Cannot understand

The Obama regime will raise our taxes on January 2011 to a level higher than any other time in history, including the sunsetting of the Bush cuts that spurred our economy after Bush took office. Since our economy is already in its death throes, the increases should just about finish us off.
History has repeatedly shown that raising taxes can kill the economy or kill a complete industry, whereas cutting taxes has always spurred the economy and increased revenues to the government. Socialist community organizer Obama said that he knew this, but that it "it is not fair" for higher income earners to get a cut while there are those less fortunate in America. The yacht tax broke the industry's back and caused buyers to leave buy out of the country. Cigarette tax causes bootlegging and is a hypocrisy (the governments want the revenue. It is the most heavily taxed consumer product and punishes the poor.) Liberals cannot or will not understand basic economics.

And so it goes

For years, liberal teachers, the preponderant majority, have fed to their defenseless young students a steady diet of "America sucks and socialism into the empty minds of our school children. In turn, the eager youngsters take their indoctrinated selves to college where liberal professors, having gotten into the trade to crusade for equality of outcome for all, further their anti-American schooling. Not surprisingly, some of the most pliable and crusade-prone of those young sponges themselves go into teaching where they can "make a difference."
And so it goes, one generation after another, while our young people continue to decline in standardized tests in comparison to the other advanced nations of the world. The only winners in the disintegrating education system are the teachers unions and educators who manage to gain more and more benefits, higher salaries, and ironclad tenure while, at the same time, blocking any attempt at innovation that might threaten their security such as teacher performance tests and student vouchers.

Balkanization of America

It is hard to put into words in a few sentences the situation we have in America regarding the illegal alien problem. It may not be a problem to the chronically politically correct and Democrats who want to somehow make the 15 million illegals American citizens who, presumably, will vote Democrat. These people even refuse to use the term "illegal alien." They insist upon referring to people who broke U.S. law by sneaking across our border as undocumented immigrants or migrants or just plain immigrants. They also seek to blur the distinction between illegal and legal immigrants, because, and who could object, immigration is a healthy thing for our country because of the vague benefit of diversity. This cliché is, of course, pure bunk because diversity never caused anything but balkanization of ethnic groups that do not assimilate nor participate in civic functions. A subject for another blog. However, the illegal problem is our most serious threat. The state of Arizona has been asking the Federal Government to enforce the law and do something about the horrendous problem of violence, crime, and law enforcement problems that illegals are causing. The Feds have ignored their responsibility so Arizona passed their own immigration law that actually just mirrors the federal law. The feds filed a lawsuit claiming Arizona was preempting the fed law. That is, we won't enforce the law but we will not allow you to do so.
