I realize it is unseemly to bad-mouth the recently deceased, but in this case, it is just too difficult to abstain. Walter Cronkite has passed away and the media is bombarding us with one sappy encomium after another. One outlet noted that at one time, Cronkite's audience was so large, and his image so credible, that a 1972 poll found he was "the most trusted man in America" - even more trusted than the president, vice president, Congress and all other journalists. In truth, he was a left-biased promoter of the Democrat Party and all its goals. In later years, he stopped even putting up a fairness front. Historians say that he almost single-handedly caused our government to stop supporting the South Vietnamese and indirectly caused us to lose everything there including the total loss of the country to Communism. As expected, Obama, the most liberally biased president in our history, chimed in with, "For decades, Walter Cronkite was the most trusted voice in America; Walter set the standard by which all others have been judged." Surely that is true; the CBS news staff is still predominately a liberal, biased, bunch that gives us their impression of the news, rather than the straight stuff. Another famous CBS news anchor, Dan Rather, lost his job after years of trusted news providing by inventing false stories about President Bush. The American public has always been a bit careless about to whom it puts its trust.
