Let that little guy go

Everybody needs to be somewhere and have something to do. The E.R., always right out there on the leading edge of the news, had a front page, above the fold, picture of a young woman alongside the road wearing a sandwich board sign and carrying another protesting that awful cloud hanging over Chicoans’ heads: slavery.

That’s right, human slavery. The young woman said she became concerned and actively involved because of a Chico State class on social movements. I am not making this up; there apparently is an actual college level class where one can earn credits for graduation and still learn some really cool issues that one can get outraged about and publicly protest. Nowadays, I would not be surprised if she were protesting the mistreatment of muskrats. As a parent, I am thinking of the father out there somewhere pondering how he much of his hard-earned income he is spending so his daughter can go college and learn how to be socially sensitive and to publicly protest. She told the E.R. reporter, who passed the tidbit on to us readers, that there are 200,000 slaves in the U.S. I didn’t check Snopes, or any other source for that matter, but that number is not one can easily accept as credible. However, while shopping down at Safeway, I did witness an extremely bossy little woman ordering this little guy around and he did seem to be slavishly following orders.
