In the great depression, the self-serving bureaucrats saw the unfortunate situation as an opportunity to expand government, so they convinced the public that the best solution was for mama government to control the economy.
Thus, we still have a large segment of the population that believes the big lie that capitalism failed when the truth is that the government failed because of its incompetent meddling. The clueless Obama is promoting the same ineffective, inefficient populist garbage: government intervention in the free market, big government spending, raising taxes, increasing tariffs, price and wage controls, and restrictions on business. He is heading down that same destructive path of deficit government spending on huge make-work projects that puts the economy in the hands of bureaucrats, who know zip about business. This misguided approach takes money away from the free capital market where businesses could grow, invest, and build the economy in a lasting way, Milton Friedman said, we can always create jobs – hire people to dig holes and then fill them up – but it a lousy way to restore a healthy free market. Liberals, the corrupt media, and socialist-minded DemPols cannot and will not acknowledge that most economists agree that government control crippled the recovery and extended the great depression, which then didn’t end for ten years and would have gone on another ten if it were not for the war.
