The bureaucrats have nationalized nine banks, a move never even considered in a free market system except by FDR, who used the financial crisis as an excuse to tremendously expand the role of government in our lives. We see this type thing only in totalitarian countries.
No one in Congress even suggests any longer that spending should be pay as you go; remember madam Pelosi’s promise to approve no new expenditures unless there was a companion proposal to lower spending elsewhere? The DemPols’ big plan is to take money from taxpayers and use that money to "create green jobs," work projects, and other make-work questionably effective programs. A terrible waste of taxpayer money that will delay economic recovery just as FDR’s make-work projects prolonged the great depression for nine years. In his book Free to Choose, Milton Friedman wrote, "If all we want are jobs, we can create any number -- for example, have people dig holes and then fill them up again, or perform other useless tasks. Work may sometimes be its own reward, but mostly it is simply the price we pay to get the things we want. Our real objective is not just jobs but productive jobs -- jobs that will mean more goods and services to consume”
